Yes. Milliampere-hour, abbreviated as mAh, is the rating of a batteries capacity. It is an indication of how long the battery will last before it needs to be charged. Therefore if you are comparing two batteries of the same voltage (e.g. two batteries for the same camera), the battery with the highest mAh rating will power the device longest.

To get an indication of how long a new battery will last in your camera take a look at your current batteries mAh rating. Now recall how long that battery used to last when it was brand new (this is important because all batteries deteriorate with age). Let's say your current battery is rated at 1000 mAh and you recall it used to last one hour when it was new. You are looking at buying a new battery that is rated at 2000 mAh. Therefore this new battery should last roughly two hours before it needs to be charged.

It is important to note that it is common practice amongst Chinese manufacturers to label their batteries with a higher mAh rating. Higher than the batteries actual capacity. If it looks too good to be true it probably is. It is not possible to fit twice as many mAh into a battery of the same size and shape.

1. The first step is to make sure that the charger is correct for the battery you are using. If you are unsure please contact us first.

2. The second step is to make sure the battery is inserted into the charger correctly. To do this you need to make sure the metal contact points on the charger are making contact with the metal contact points on the battery. Generally there are two metal contact points on the charger and three on the battery. The two metal contact points of the charger should be making good contact with two of the metal contact points on the battery when the battery is inserted properly. Please use a slight bit of force to make sure the contact points are nice and snug.

Generally we find most people find their issue resolved after step two and inserting the battery correctly. If the light on your charger still won't turn red after inserting a flat battery proceed to the next step:

3. All modern batteries are fitted with micro-electronics that drain a small amount of current even when the battery is not being used. If your battery has been sitting without use for 12 months or more there is a high probability that it has self-discharged below safe levels, and has effectively killed itself. In addition all batteries deteriorate with age. So even if you have kept it regularily charged throughout its entire life, a battery will hold less and less power every day until eventually it needs replacing after 3-5 years. Ask yourself if either of those two situations apply to you. If so your battery needs replacing.

1. The first step is to make sure that the charger is correct for the battery you are using. If you are unsure please contact us first.

2. The charger should have two metal contact points. These two metal contact points need to be touching only two of the metal contact points on your battery.

Without placing the battery in the charger align and rotate the battery so that if placed in the charger, the two metal contact points of the charger would be touching two of the metal contact points on the battery. There should only be one way that makes this possible.

3. Once you know which way the battery is to be inserted place the battery into the charger, and use a small amount of force to insert the battery fully.

To use the calculator you will need only two variables. The first variable is the capacity of the battery you wish to charge in mAh. This can be found by looking on the back of your battery. Most battery capacities are expressed in mAh however some original Sony batteries use the Wh measurement. The second variable needed is the output of the charger expressed in mA. This can be found by looking at the back of the battery charger.
